    Transportation Planning
    The Need

Consumers of medical, dental and social services in the Twin Rivers communities face significant barriers to reach primary care doctors, speciality care and other related healthcare services, as well as, dental care and social service agencies. The current public and volunteer transportation system in the region is not coordinated and can be difficult for consumers to use. Distance to travel, lack of personal transportation, non-coordinated public transportation, all play a role in creating the need for transportation planning in the greater Twin Rivers region.

    Actions
2002 brought the Lakes Region and Twin Rivers transportation providers together, to plan for increasing the public's access to transportation services in the region. Residents in the region have been surveyed and funding restrictions have been identified. Three activities have been cited as having the largest possible impact for the region:

    • Pubic education and advertising
    • Staff training
    • Coordinating services

Everyone understands that no single transportation agency can meet all of the needs of the public, no matter how far it stretches. Understanding how to manage the limited resources of both scheduled and on-demand transportation services, are key ingredients to successful planning.

    Involvement
Thirty-five agencies and organizations are participating in this two region planning process. In-kind contributions of space, time and administrative assistance have been donated. CCNTR has contributed facilitation of the planning process, surveying and materials development. The planning process will conclude after one year, at which time funding will be sought to implement the coordinated services that will improve transportation services in the region. Regional planning is funded through the NH Endowment for Health.
